The Karnataka RERA, which was introduced in the July 2017, is now seeing a plethora of problems, wherein the buyers are flocking the doorsteps of the regulator against the Developers, wherein about 80 complaints have been registered so far in 62 days.  A majority of these complaints are against the realty projects in the city of Bangalore, which are predominantly on delayed delivery of apartment houses or failure to provide promised amenities.  Is the RERA authority functioning effectively?  The idea of implementation of RERA Act and enacting rules for a particular state is to ensure that the grievances of the homebuyers are redressed.  The RERA authority should have a permanent chairman and two members.  The principal secretary of housing department is currently the interim chairman, who is most of the time preoccupied with the main charge of redressing the homebuyers complaints.  A Tribunal under the RERA Act is also not constituted in the state.  Wouldn’t this defeat the whole purpose of RERA?
