The Coimbatore chapters of CREDAI and Builders Association of India and other such organisations in the realty business has sought revision of levies  – the building licence fee and caution deposit levied on multistoreyed residential structures – from the Coimbatore Corporation.

The corporation has increased the building licence fee 300%-500% during the last year. Apart from the above mentioned, the corporation also levies high water connection charges from houses and apartment complexes.

Developers do not have an option but to pass this on to the home buyers and many feel it is not justified as there are other charges and taxes such as infrastructure and amenities charge, underground drainage charge and water charges that has to be paid. They are clear about the fact that these charges need to be reduced and should be reasonable. The associations have petitioned to the Mayor and the Corporation Commissioner regarding this.
